I'm working on a few new collaborations and because you keep coming back that makes it all possible. It really is a dream come true to have this blog really turning into something that I can do everyday and be proud of. So again, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!

Today I'm going to talk siblings sharing rooms.
Our plan was to have 3 kids. We bought a house with 4 bedrooms because we knew all of our kids were going to be able to have their own rooms. Well, then life happened and before we knew it Lexi was living with us and I was pregnant with our fourth baby, Tenley. So, out the window went the idea of every kid having their own room.
At first our plan was obviously, Mike and I in our room, Logan takes bedroom number two, Lexi takes bedroom number three, and Kamryn, Kensington and Tenley would share bedroom number four. Bedroom number four is really big. It used to be a loft that the previous owners enclosed to make a bedroom. It takes up half of our house.
We quickly realized our "genius" plan was not going to work. Kamryn is 7 and Kensington & Tenley are 2 and 1. Kensington and Tenley go to bed at least an hour and a half before Kamryn. We hoped Kamryn could just sneak in the room without waking the girls up but this never happened. She kept waking them up...EVERY. TIME. You know how that goes, once a toddler is up...it'll be hours before they go to sleep again. So, after a lot of tears -- from all 3 girls, we decided we needed to switch things up.
THE NEW PLAN
Kamryn and Logan now needed to share a room temporarily until Lexi goes to college. Then Kamryn will jump over to what is now Lexi's room and that'll be her room. We have approximately 1 year, 3 months, 4 days, 18 hours and 7 minutes (just kidding.....) until that happens. We were at a loss, we had no idea what else we could do. Lexi is a teenager and like most teenagers she's up on her phone or doing her homework night after night. There was no way her and Kam could share a room so our only option was to have Kamryn and Logan in the same room. Short of adding an addition on our house...which we don't need.
I need some advice on how to make their room both girly and boyish so they both love their space.
We're definitely doing bunk beds. Kamryn has already called the top bunk and Logan is more than thrilled to get the bottom bunk. This will work out great because even when Lexi is away at college she'll still be coming home for winter and summer break. At that point we're going to let her use Kamryn's room and have Kam go back to the top bunk.
Okay....I need idea's! I've been pinteresting like a mad woman!
Here are some idea's I found...
I'm thinking going with navy blue and some greys and then girly touches for Kamryn's space and boyish touches for Logan's.
Have any of you done a boy/girl shared room before??
Please Please PLEASE comment and let me know your tricks and tips!!!
I LOVE the first one with the bunk beds and the black accents on the wall! Black is so basic and matches with EVERYTHING, leaving pretty much a blank pallet for customizing half the room for Kam and half for Logan! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
ReplyDeleteThat one is my favorite too! :)
DeleteI love the idea with the bunk beds, I think that would work! I have girls and only two so I don't have this issue yet! But! If I was doing a shared room it would be bunk beds for sure! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The kids are really excited about the bunk beds for sure!
DeleteI love the side by side beds bc then they have their own space, one side his one side's hers... she could paint her side one color while he could go a different color making it their own! Cant wait to see what you decide! :) Good Luck Kris!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The kids are pretty set on bunk beds and for the space we have to work with they are probably a better option than side by side beds. I just want to make sure they have enough room for all their stuff too! SO. MUCH. STUFF.
DeleteI would colour one wall pinkish and one blue and have a little princess bed on the pink side and a car bed on the blue side. Or just keep it neutral e.g. a pale green or yellow. But then I also played with He Man and transformers when I was a child so I would not worry too much about how to make it more girly or boyish. It should be good for the girl to play with boys toys too :)
ReplyDeleteI love those idea's! Thankfully they are both pretty open and not really dying to have one color or another. Gives me a lot of options! :)
