Life Lately

It's been quite the two weeks. Kamryn, Logan and Kensington went to Pappi and GranDee's at the beginning of February vacation for a sleepover. When I went to pick them up Kamryn was telling me she wasn't feeling good, we got home and she said she felt better and by that night it was all downhill. This was followed by her not feeling well for all of February vacation. Then Tenley got sick, then Kensington and then me. We thought we were out of the woods on Monday...when the picture below was taken. But by noontime I got a call from the school that Logan was sick and I had to come get him.

Logan FINALLY started to feel better yesterday and went back to school today. Somehow, someway, Mike and Smith did not get it. Smith has been really stuffed up when he wakes up in the morning but besides that he's been doing just fine. FINGERS & TOES CROSSED!

I THINK we are all on the up....
We just need warmer weather and warmer weather that sticks around!! No more of this up and down stuff. It drives me crazy!!!

On Tuesday I had a full circle moment.

5 years ago little Kensington accompanied me to sign Kamryn up for kindergarten.
Here she is below...her happy self in her little car seat.

Then Tuesday little Smith accompanied me to sign Kensington up for Kindergarten.
Here he is in his little car seat before we left to go...

In 5 years so much has changed, yet so much has stayed the same. If you were to ask me 5 years ago if I thought I'd have another baby when I signed Kensington up for kindergarten I would've said NO WAY! Yet here we are.... And yeah, no, I don't think I'll have another baby in 5 years when I sign Smith up. I can promise you that!

And here's my little nugget today! Smith Joseph is 3 months old!!

Smith is happy, he's cuddly, he barely ever cries....except at night before bed. He hits that wall and just screams until I can finally get him to sleep. He's a fabulous sleeper. He loves his Dada, is still beyond obsessed with his Mama and really enjoys hanging in the mama-roo watching his siblings.

Love you, Smith!! <3

Sickness

Currently all the Sass girls are sick with fevers and terrible colds. We may or may not have the flu? If you know me you know I’m not a medical worrier. I have 5 kids and have probably been to the pediatrician for sick visits maybe 8 times.. I just hate to walk in there, pay the co-pay and then be told it’s viral and there’s nothing they can do. Of course, if/when the kids get really REALLY sick I’d bring them but 9 times out of 10 they are feeling better in a few days and luckily when they do get sick it’s usually nothing serious. So for now we’ll just be fighting it at home while our boys take care of us. I hate this time of year! Just one month til Spring!!

Mike and I have been checking Smith’s temperature with every diaper change and I’m constantly washing my hands and touching him as little as possible. Which sucks! I just want to snuggle my baby!! So, say a prayer we all start feeling better soon and the boys don’t catch this virus! I’m so paranoid after having Smith battle RSV when he was only 2 weeks old. So. Stressful.

Here’s a picture of my sweet boys! Logan sure does love his baby brother!

Smith

You guys, Smith is the BEST little sleeper. I still can't believe it!

Let's back track a little....here's Miss Kamryn.

She was the best sleeper! From 4 weeks on she would sleep through the night. (through the night meaning, go to bed at 10-11pm and sleepb til 7am). Remember, I was only 23 when she was born. I just thought all babies were good sleepers and those who's babies were not sleeping through the night were surely doing something wrong. I now know I got very lucky. I went on to have 3 more babies who all were "okay" sleepers. Logan, Kensington and Tenley weren't great sleepers, they weren't terrible but it was definitely months and months before I got a full nights sleep. They all woke up once a night. And Kensington and Tenley were definitely a year old still getting up once a night. I remember being very pregnant with Tenley and Kensington was still waking up and I thought "How am I going to do this?!" Thankfully before Tenley was born she figured it out but man...I was TIRED!

Fast forward to Smith.

Now for the first 8 weeks of Smith's life if he was awake and I wasn't holding him, he was crying. It was really hard. I tried to use a sling and wear him and I HATED it. I felt so claustrophobic, I felt like he was going to fall out (he wasn't but I pictured the worst), so I wore him but still felt like I needed to hold him in the sling so I was never actually hands free. So I held him and did my thing. However, he was sleeping amazingly at night! He'd fall asleep on my chest anytime between 6pm and 9pm and he'd wake up at 2am on the dot. Then 2 turned to 4am and then 5am and now he's waking up at 6am. Smith is only 12 weeks old and already sleeps ELEVEN HOURS A NIGHT. He falls asleep right at 7 and I don't hear a peep until 6 the next morning.

I wish I had advice on how to get your baby to sleep all night but I have none. Yes, there are courses you can take. Yes, there are sleep sacks and sleep suits and swaddles and all that jazz. Yes, you can hire a sleep coach. I'm sure all those things work for some people...but for the Sasses, it's just been luck of the draw with our babies. One thing I do is keep the babies out in the loud bright house for naps so they aren't getting a really good nap in during the day but at night its dark, its quiet and calm. And truthfully that's all I do and the only thing I can really think of that might be the reason. 5 kids=a lot of noise. But again, Kamryn was my first and she slept great and things were very quiet back then being just the 3 of us so who knows?

But, having my 5th baby and not really ever feeling super sleep deprived.....what a blessing!!

Way to go Smith!!!

Home Updates - The Front of the House

Since the Fall we've done some major updates to our house. You know you're an adult when #1, these types of things make you giddy and #2, when looking at other people's home updates makes you just as giddy. :)

Today I'm going to share the updates we had done to the front of the house. With more posts coming of all the other stuff we've had done.

So, this is our house before we started. We've lived in this house for 9 years and I've always ALWAYS hated the color. It took me FOREVER to figure out what color I wanted to paint it though. I went back and forth between light gray, navy blue, charcoal gray and white.I decided to go with white. :) And I'm so glad I did!

So, first things first they ripped off all our siding and we were left with this. Don't mind the finger in the corner of the picture...I sent Kamryn out to snap this. ;)

White siding going up, gutters being ripped down and an idea of what our house will look like.

Any and all progress got me so excited. Everyday after the contractors left I would go outside and see what they did...and of course snap a picture!

Don't worry I won't be sharing every single picture. LOL!

New window's with grids. I love the grids...I think they bring so much character to a home.

Siding done on this side of the house.

Now if you look at the picture on the left you'll see we didn't have any siding on the "rake" of our house...that part where the two levels of the roof meet. I had no idea but that is not what it's supposed to look like. It's supposed to have siding all the way up. Once it was done (picture on the right) I could see why! What a difference!

We decided to get rid of the bay window and really open things up on the front of the house with a nice big picture window. I don't really care for bay windows. I for one, don't know how to decorate them so it turns into a dust collector and two, they just don't bring in enough light.

It's incredible how much more light this window brings in! And it looks prettier too... We absolutely love it!

And here's our house today!!

They need to come back when the weather warms up and give it another coat of paint, hang the new gutters and we're adding some farmhouse shutters to each window. We are absolutely thrilled with how it's coming along. I will be sure to share a finished project as soon as it's finally finished!

I've got lots more to share on these home updates but that's it for today!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!!

Smile

Because these pictures make me smile :)
