{update: we since have decided that we are not sure if we will name the baby the name stated in this post. see next post to hear the whole story on why we i am now undecided on that. :-)}
Mike and I decided about a month ago that since this will more than likely be our last baby we wanted to celebrate this pregnancy in some way with our family and friends. We decided to do a gender reveal party. This is a new thing that no one really did when I was pregnant with Kamryn or Logan, so we thought, why not?!? We decided to have a low key cookout and after we all ate burgers and hot dogs to use a cake to tell us if the baby is a boy or girl.
We had our ultrasound on Tuesday and before the ultrasound technician could even ask “Do you want to know what you’re having?” I had already told her to look, but not tell us and write it down. She then sealed it in an envelope and Mike and I didn’t open it! (Yes, it was hard but we did it.) We took the sealed envelope to a local bakery and depending on what it said we told them to fill the cake with pink or blue frosting.

This was such a cool way to find out and when we cut into the cake I have to admit I was brought to tears. When I looked up and saw so many smiling faces looking at Mike and I and sharing in this special moment with us, it was all the proof I needed that this was indeed the best and most special way to find out if this baby is a boy or a girl!
Well……drum roll please…….
IT’S A GIRL!!!!!
We cannot wait to meet Miss Eliot Bree! Mike and I both thought we were having another boy so when we saw the pink frosting we were beyond surprised! I am going to try to get the video on here but right now it won’t let me upload it. My face says it all! I think at first Mike had a little “gender shock”. He had the picture of brothers in his head and convinced himself it was a boy so when he saw pink he was definitely taken back. But we are both over the moon and cannot wait to meet our little princess!! It’s really funny because at the last minute I had decided that I didn’t like our boy name and we needed another name. So the day of the party we hadn’t settled on a name for a boy but had Eliot set in stone for a girl!
Her Name:
We’ve had a few people ask us if she is named after anyone. So here’s the answer:
Eliot is a name that Mike and I have had picked out for a long long time. Even before Kamryn was born. When we didn’t name Kamryn Eliot I knew if we ever had another girl we would definitely use it. We both love it so much! We will call her Elli, Elli-Bree, El, Els, El-B etc. for short. We’ll see what sticks but so far I’m sticking to Elli.
Bree is after my dear friend Breda who passed away when we were only freshman in high school. Breda was one of my best friends who meant so much to me. Breda touched a lot of people in her much too short life and to know her was to love her! Her personality was larger than life, her sense of humor was out of this world and heart was even bigger. It means so much to me to carry on her name in a shorter version in my daughters middle name. I can’t wait to someday tell Eliot where her middle name came from and I couldn’t be prouder to honor her in my daughters name!
Now we are even more excited for November to get here! The pregnancy has been going perfectly and Eliot is looking great. She has a nice strong heart beat and is growing right on track. We all can’t wait to meet her!!!
